I accidentally dropped my Philips AquaTouch AT892 shaver on the floor. Opening up and realigning the rotating blade holders it looked to have survived the fall without anything broken. Sadly it shortly after started to show intermittent failure symptom where it drop in motor speed and then stop completely.
Tapping the machine hard into my palm would sometimes start the motor again — indicating a simple contact problem.
As it turn out this electric shaver have two contacts inside. The charger port and the motor.
One need a Torx tool size T8 to remove 3 screws — a 2mm-2.5mm flat screwdriver might do it in a pinch as the screws also has a slot in the head. A flat screwdriver can also help prying the plastic apart.
Look at some of the stills I shot in the disassembly process to better understand how to break this shaver apart.
Start by removing the two screws in the chamber, then lift off the top chamber. Now the parts can be peeled off like an onion. There is a single screw on the back cover.
Be extra careful when bending the tabs on the translucent plastic cover. They're very fragile compared to the rest of the plastic parts and break easily.
My shaver is now working perfect again after gently bending the contacts on the motor to establish new contact points.
